10 Signs You Need AC Repair (Part 2 of 2)
In this post “10 Signs You Need AC Repair Part 2” we provide you with several more indicators that your unit needs maintenance.
6. AC Repair Sign Sticky Air
The job of your AC unit is to maintain humidity levels in your home automatically.
An AC absorbs warm air from your home, removes the moisture, cools it, and sends the cold air through your home’s return vents. If your home feels humid, it’s possible airflow may be obstructed.
7. AC Repair Sign Water Leaks
Your air conditioner relies on refrigerant to cool your home and as a result, this can produce condensation as it operates. However, these liquids should not accumulate or leak into your home.
Pooled water or an active leak around your unit is a major sign that your cooling system isn’t operating properly. Contact us right away. Leaks can lead to structural damage to your home.
8. AC Repair Sign High Energy Bill
If you’ve noticed your energy bills are consistently high, your system could be the culprit.
Check the age of your unit. If it is nearing 10 years old or older, it is most likely becoming inefficient. Inefficiency typically means higher utility bills.
9. AC Repair Sign Short Cycling
Does your unit turn on only to shut down a few minutes later?
Contrary to what you may have heard, this does not mean your home is cooling faster than normal; it means your AC unit is short-cycling and is working way harder than it should. As a result, your wallet and overall comfort will be negatively affected.
10. AC Repair Sign R-22 Refrigerant
Air conditioners manufactured before January 1, 2010, use a refrigerant called R-22, which is also known as Freon. R-22 has been found to deplete the ozone layer and has been banned by the Environmental Protection Agency.
This means it will soon no longer be available and your old AC will need to be replaced. In fact, parts and refrigerant are becoming obsolete as of today. Plus, the cost of R-22 is exorbitant.
