7 Ways To Extend The Life Of Your AC (part 1 of 2)

Today we share 7 ways to extend the life of your AC (part 1 of 2). Your air conditioner is a major investment requiring proper care to ensure it operates efficiently for many years.  Similar to your car, AC equipment requires regular attention to prolong its life and avoid breakdowns.

1. Change The Air Filter

The responsibility of your AC Filter is to capture dust, dander, pollen, and other contaminants to keep your indoor air healthy. Over time, the filter becomes dirty and clogged, and cannot perform its job. Therefore, your AC will work harder to maintain air flow, which can result in an overworked unit, and potentially, additional repairs.

To avoid this, we recommend replacing your air conditioner’s filter at least once a month in Southwest Florida.  Furthermore, if you have 5″ pleated filters, we recommend replacing every 3 months. Consequently, this will help your unit to run more efficiently and improve indoor air quality.

2. Schedule Preventative Maintenance

Your AC unit deserves a little TLC, just like any investment.  In fact, since most homeowners in SW Florida run their system year-round, regular AC check-ups are one of the 7 ways to extend the life of your AC (part 1 of 2).

Our technicians will visit your home on a scheduled appointment that is convenient for you. First, they will perform general maintenance and carefully inspect the system. Secondly, they will look for anything suspicious that may need to be repaired. Our technicians are trained to inspect all interior and exterior components, with the goal of ensuring your system is running smoothly. Here is the 30 point tune-up in detail.

As a result of the heat we experience the majority of the year, we recommend two annual check-ups. As a maintenance plan-holder with us, you’ll receive the standard diagnostic rate for AC emergencies after hours, on weekends, and holidays.  Therefore, just give us a call and you will be greeted with a live, friendly voice on the phone.  Learn about maintenance plans.

3. Trim Around The Outdoor Condenser Unit

Even though air conditioning units are built to withstand the elements of the outdoors, it is essential to keep the area around the unit clean to provide proper air circulation. Therefore, it is a good idea to periodically check and remove any accumulation of leaves, weeds, or branches.

If you have shrubs or bushes, keep them trimmed to avoid any unnecessary overheating with your unit.  Most importantly, the goal is to provide the condenser unit with unobstructed airflow for the best possible performance.
