AC Tips for any Season Part 2 of 3
AC Tips for any Season Part 2 of 3 continues with several more ways you can save money and extend the life span of your AC equipment. In the previous blog post we discussed the importance of changing your air filter, sealing your windows and doors, why you should keep your doors and vents open, how to ease into the Florida winter, and when to operate your ceiling fans.
TIP #6: AC Unit Sizing
Proper AC Unit Sizing is critical. If your unit is too large, your AC will frequently cycle on and off. This “short cycling” can lead to a premature system breakdown. It will also be less efficient at removing humidity in your home. If it is too small, your AC will run for longer cycles which places more stress on your compressor. In fact, a too-small unit will be overworked and won’t produce enough power to provide a comfortable level of cooling. These factors all result in higher energy costs in the short and long term.
Many variables play into determining the type of AC system that is right for your home. In fact, there is a process that professional AC technicians follow called a “load calculation” which includes identifying the correct tonnage (cooling capacity) for the size of your home. With results from an accurate room-by-room load calculation, an AC technician can select equipment and design a system that will perform at its maximum efficiency.
TIP #7: AC System Price
Price is only one of several factors to consider when purchasing an air conditioning system. When you are in the process of purchasing and installing an air conditioner, be certain to make your selection based upon your needs, budget, and anticipated length of time you will be in your current home.
The energy savings you receive when investing in a high-efficiency AC system is well worth the additional cost, especially when you compare the new efficiency models to an older unit. Contact us for advice, (239) 693-9005 .
TIP #8: Keep Your AC Unit Clean And Clear
Keep leaves, shrubbery and debris at least 18 inches away from your outdoor unit. Also, check the AC coils and fins on the outside of your unit and clear any debris or obstructions from it. Most importantly, obstructions can cause your unit to work harder than necessary.
Tip #9: Give Your AC System Regular Attention
Don’t buy into the school of thought that says….”If it’s running okay, why bother having it checked?” This is not the right attitude. Remember Murphy’s Law?
Even though your AC system may be operating just fine, there will come a time when something goes wrong. And, it is typically at the most inopportune moments.
Regular AC maintenance extends the life of your system, which can save you time, money, and stress. In fact, our Maintenance Agreements include priority same day service, 10% discount on parts, and no overtime charges.
