Animals In Your HVAC System
Southwest Florida is home to many animals and pests that inhabit areas in and around your Cape Coral and Ft Myers home.
Unfortunately, cockroaches, mice, snakes, rats, raccoons, possums, etc., find a way into your HVAC system, which is a very welcoming place to nest and breed. These little critters can easily squeeze through the smallest of cracks in your ductwork causing major AC repair.
Oftentimes there’s protection in your air conditioner condenser’s grill. There’s almost always a fresh water supply from the condensation. However in SW Florida, your AC’s duct system is a more popular place for critters to nest.
Warning Signs Of Animals In Your HVAC System
You may notice nesting materials in your filter, foul odors, see or hear the pests themselves. If bacteria and particles get into the air flow of your AC system it can cause unhealthy air.
An actual story from one of our customers began with them hearing a loud thumping, rumbling noise. Unsure what it was, their next step involved calling us for potential AC repair. When our service technicians arrived, they found a rat who had made its home in the air handler.
What happened? This unwanted visitor got in by chewing through the ductwork.
Also, some critters are known to chew the wiring in your HVAC system causing serious damage. This can lead to expensive AC repair or even replacement of your entire system.
Avoid Animals Nesting In Your HVAC System
Your soffit is the perfect gateway to your duct system. Cracks, gaps and other openings in your soffit create ideal opportunities for creatures to inhabit your home and AC unit.
You can reduce the chance of animals entering your HVAC system by keeping your landscaping trimmed back from your roof line. This will keep varmints from gaining access through your soffit.
Also, check around and ensure all possible places critters can enter are sealed off.
Prevention is key. Regular inspection from your HVAC company is imperative to ensuring a pest free system, years of comfort and trouble-free heating and cooling.
Contact us if you suspect you have an issue. Your Sunset Air technician will look for signs of pest infestation in your condenser, ductwork, and all parts of your AC system.
We Do Not Remove Animals From An HVAC System
While we do not remove any live critters, we will inspect your ductwork and let you know if any animal (living or dead) has been found.
Once they have been removed, we will identify the problem areas and perform any AC repair needed. This includes sealing any points of entry, cleaning, repairing and sanitizing your ductwork so you can breathe cleaner air.
We will also make recommendations for regular inspection and maintenance in and around your AC system to reduce the potential of future infestations.
