When your air conditioner suddenly stops cooling in the middle of a hot and humid SW Florida afternoon, your day can suddenly turn upside down.

Before calling us for service, we recommend troubleshooting a few items to help you save time, money, and frustration. Start here with these 3 simple checks.
Inspect Your Thermostat Settings
It sounds easy, right? In our experience, thermostat settings are one of the most common causes of cooling issues.
Here is what to look for:
- Thermostat is set to “Cool”
- Temperature is set lower than the current room temperature
- Fan is set to “Auto”

- Does your thermostat require batteries? Go ahead and replace them.
- Do you have a smart thermostat? The Wi-Fi connection may have dropped. Perform a quick reset to solve the problem.
PRO TIP: If your Fort Myers home feels cold yet sticky, there may be a more serious issue affecting your AC system’s ability to properly remove humidity from the air. In this case, it is best to call us.
Inspect Your Air Filter
A dirty air filter restricts airflow and forces your AC system to work harder than necessary. Over time, this reduces cooling performance, can increase energy bills, and even cause system shutdowns.

Before calling us for service, check your air filter.
Chances are it is dirty or clogged, so go ahead and replace it. During the summer, we recommend changing your filter every month. For homes with pets or family members with allergies, replace your filter once a month.
PRO TIP: It is best to have a supply of filters on hand. There are several types from which to choose depending on your AC system and home. If you are unsure which air filter is best, call us for expert advice.
Check the Outdoor Unit
Prior to calling for service, check your outdoor condenser.

- Is there debris around your unit? Remove leaves, grass clippings and trim vegetation. Leave about 2’-3’ feet of clearance around the unit.

- Listen for unusual sounds like buzzing or clicking. If you hear any odd noises, call us immediately.
- Be sure the breaker has not tripped.
Pro Tip: If the breaker repeatedly trips, turn the system off. This could suggest an underlying electrical problem, a failed compressor, or other issues. Call us for service.
