Ronald McDonald House – Thursday Meal
Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Florida is head quartered near the Golisano Children’s hospital of Southwest Florida. It is located by Lee memorial Health System Health park campus in South Fort Myers. It is best known as an organization that provides care and housing for families with seriously ill or injured children that are being treated at Health park hospital.
Three employees of Sunset Air and Home Services; Shelly Porter, Ryan Lane, and Jennifer Ankrum, were able to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald house and prepare the Thursday Meal for families staying in the Ronald McDonald House on December 29, 2016. Since 1996, the Ronald McDonald House has provided over 3 thousand families with a home away from home. The average length of stay is 12 days, but families are welcome to stay until their child is discharged, which can sometimes mean months.
While we were preparing the spaghetti and meatballs with a homemade salad and fresh French bread for the residents that evening. Shelly, Ryan and Jennifer were able to sit and talk with some of the residents. What a wonderful experience just to be able to talk to the residents about real life situations that some of them are going through stated; Shelly.
Upcoming Charity Events
After the volunteers completed the meal for the residents they were able to take a tour of the house and learn some more about the background and charity events coming up for this wonderful organization. Sunset looks forward to participating and sponsoring again this year in the Annual Offshore Rodeo and Reggae party.
