Why Is My AC Fan Not Working? (2 of 2)
In part 1 of 2, we detailed several reasons why your AC fan may not be working.
Today’s post dives into 4 more potential culprits that could cause your AC fan to malfunction.
When you notice any of these issues, it is a good idea to call us for AC Repair and let us do a complete diagnosis to find the root issue.
Broken Fan Blade May Be Why My AC Fan is Not Working
If you hear an unusual sound, it may be a broken fan blade that is out of balance or striking other components in the unit.
To check the blades, turn the unit off and look through the top of the unit to see if the blades are intact. If one is broken or damaged, keep the system off and call us for AC Repair.
Thermostat Issues May Be Why My AC Fan is Not Working
Thermostat issues can prevent the fan from operating correctly. Be sure the system is set for Cooling and on Auto mode.
Check that the appropriate cooling temperature is selected. If you have a programmable thermostat, be sure it is set accurately.
Contactor Issues May Be Why My AC Fan is Not Working
A contactor is a switch located in your air conditioner’s outdoor condenser unit. It provides power to components such as the compressor and condenser fan and controls your AC system.
These switches tend to wear out and break down over time, causing both the fan and the compressor to stop working.
If you suspect an issue with the compressor contactor, do not try to repair or replace this on your own. Be sure to call us for AC Repair.
Clogged Air Filter May Be Why My AC Fan is Not Working
Clogged filters restrict air flow, leading to a malfunctioning unit. To prevent calling us for AC Repair and keep the system operating without disruption, practice routine service and regular air filter changes.
Pro Tip: HVAC units are highly technical and use large amounts of voltage electricity that can be very dangerous and even fatal.
