Mini Split AC System Common FAQs
Mini Split AC systems have become increasingly popular in Southwest Florida for their efficiency and flexibility. We often get questions from homeowners curious about how these systems work and whether they’re the right fit for their home. Here are the answers to the most Frequently Asked Questions.
How Does A Mini Split AC System Work?
A Mini Split system is a ductless cooling and heating solution. In other words, this little gem cools and heats with no additional ducts needed.

The system includes an outdoor compressor and one or more indoor air-handling units connected by a conduit. You can use it as your main cooling system or as a supplement to your conventional AC unit.
Where Can A Mini Split Be Installed?
Mini Split AC units are incredibly versatile and can be installed in almost any room. Many of our customers have them installed in their garage to create an air-conditioned work area that can be utilized year-round.

Others have installed a Mini Split AC when they renovate or add a space to their home. Installing HVAC equipment is highly technical and best left to the professionals. Typically, we can install a Mini Split AC unit in an 8-hour day.
Popular options include:
- Wall-mounted units for common areas like living rooms.
- Ceiling-mounted units for a sleek, out-of-the-way look.
- Floor-mounted units for spaces with limited wall space.
Are Mini Splits Expensive To Operate?
While initial installation costs may be higher than some conventional systems, Mini Splits are highly energy-efficient, which can add up to savings over time with your monthly energy bill.

Another bonus is a Mini Split AC runs at a variable speed. Therefore, it only runs as fast as it needs, to keep any room at its set temperature. In addition, it continuously dehumidifies the dedicated rooms. Some systems also come with an “intelligent eye,” which is a feature that detects inactivity in a room after a certain period. The system will then switch to a power-saving mode.
What Is Zoning And How Does It Work With A Mini Split AC System?
Zoning allows you to control the temperature independently in different areas or rooms of your home, referred to as “zones.”

Each indoor unit is connected to the outdoor condenser and operates independently, meaning you can customize temperatures for each zone (room). For example, you can keep the living room cooler during the day while maintaining a warmer temperature in unused bedrooms.
Can You Use A Mini Split AC Unit For Your Entire Home?
With the ability to connect up to eight indoor units to one condenser, you can create a comprehensive and customized cooling and heating solution for your entire home.

This setup can be beneficial for larger homes and multi-level residences where “hot spots” may occur with traditional systems.
Are Mini Splits Noisy?
Not at all! Mini Split AC units are known for their quiet operation. Indoor units typically produce a whisper hum, while outdoor compressors are much quieter than traditional AC systems.
